In 2010, nearly 21.5 million patients in the 7 leading industrial countries of the world were afflicted by the most broadly spread autoimmune diseases rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriasis, Multiple Sclerosis and Inflammatory bowel disease (Morbus Crohn and Colitis Ulcerosa). Autoimmune diseases arise from a response of a hyperactive immune system against substances and tissues normally present in the body. Celonic currently develops an antibody for the treatment of such autoimmune diseases.
