In 2007, nearly 23 million patients in the 7 leading industrial countries of the world were afflicted by the most broadly spread autoimmune diseases rheumatoid arthritis, Psoriasis, Multiple Sclerosis and Crohn’s disease. Autoimmune diseases arise from a response to a hyperactive immune system against substances and tissues normally present in the body. Celonic currently develops 2 proteins for therapy of rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease and inflammatory bowel diseases.
