Management and Team

Dr. Andreas Herrmann is the Managing Director of Celonic AG and Celonic GmbH. In 1994, he received his PhD in biochemistry in the field of diseases of the central nervous system in Cologne. Already during graduation and afterwards, he led a laboratory in protein analytics at Cologne Center for Molecular Medicine. In Düsseldorf, he established a working group in the field of vascular gene therapy. Based on these efforts and resulting patents, Cardiogene (later Cardion) was founded in order to develop gene therapeutic and immunological products. In this company, Dr. Herrmann was responsible for the technological platforms and the complete production unit as well as preclinical analytics. He obtained his current position at Celonic in 2003 and re-structured the company towards a profitable company in the field of contract manufacturing.

Stefanie Zahn
is the leader of the production unit in Basel and member of Celonic’s management. She finished her diploma as a chemical engineer in 1997 und worked for the company AGS afterwards, especially being active in the field of fermentation and purification of enzymes. 1998 she joined Cardion. After a short while as project manager, she became responsible for the whole production unit, leading the areas of cell culture, process development and production of therapeutic proteins. She was appointed as the leader in production in 2003. Thus, she provides more than ten years experience in biotechnology industry.

Stefanie Zahn


Dr. Markus Rohner is responsible for GMP facility management at Celonic in Basel. He finished his doctoral thesis at ETH Zürich in 1990 focussing on a biotechnological production process for stereospecific molecules. The new reaction system found in the thesis led to a patent application. Afterwards, Dr. Rohner was active in R&D for Lonza AG. He developed several processes from bench to production scale. In 1995, he became member of the board of Lonza Biotec in Kourim (CZ) where he initialised and supported the creation of a new GMP department. Three years later, he was appointed as member of the management team and supply chain manager. In 2001, he became head of biotechnology at Chemgineering AG. From 2003 to 2006, he worked as supply chain manager for Inotech Labor AG, being responsible for sales and operation planning for custom synthesis and custom lyophilisation.

Dr. Markus Rohner


Ute Steinbusch is in charge of business development at Celonic. Prior to her current position, she received her diploma in molecular biology at Aachen University. After performing an editor’s education at Aachen regional newspaper, she became a life sciences manager for AGIT, a regional development agency. After one year, she was appointed as the head of cluster development at AGIT. In parallel to her profession, she studied entrepreneurship at Aachen University of Applied Sciences and received her MBA in 2008.
