Celonic has been a pioneer in perfusion based technologies since decades. perfusion bioprocessing involves exchanging fresh medium for spent medium within a bioreactor while retaining the cells, allowing for higher-cell densities and lower concentrations of waste product inside the bioreactor. perfusion can be applied at the N-1 Stage (called Intensified fed-batch) or in the N-Reactor, commonly referred to as full perfusion. Celonic’s Biologics Development Center is equipped to convert classical fed-batch processes to intensified fed-batch or full perfusion. The benefits are higher titer, higher yields, Lower cost of consumable goods per gram and improved sustainability versus stainless steel processes. The 6x2000L mid scale facility in Heidelberg is designed to handle N-1 perfusion. The small scale facility can do up to 1000L full perfusion.
